Here’s a quick glimpse into how Amy brings our story onto the comic pages!
First, she starts with a very rough thumbnailing – just enough to give her a better idea of what the panel should look like.
Then, she draws the pencils on a regular printer paper the same size as the final page.
Using a light table, she mirrors another version of those pencils on the back of the final page — this helps her spot anything that looks off before moving on.
Once she’s happy, she flips the page over and inks on the clean side. After scanning the inks, she does a quick digital cleanup, such as removing orientation lines.
For some pages, we add special effects—for example, using textures for shadowy areas. Most of these textures are created by Amy traditionally and then combined digitally with the inked panels before the pages come to me for coloring.
